So it’s Day 4 of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, and I am having a blast! We’ve used the new subway system here a few times already, and it’s very efficient and fast. The crowds walking around are all happy and excited too.
We attended our first event last night, a women’s “ice” hockey game (as if there’s any other kind at the Wimter Games, but whatever) between Finland & Russia. The crowd was rowdy, the Finnish players were excellent and the Russian goaltender kept the score close till the end. Final score 5-1 Finland, with some good saves by Russia, a couple of breakaways by Finland and 3, count’em, 3 penalties for body checking! All in all a fun time was had by all (A picture or two will follow later).
Tonight we’re off to more women’s “ice” hockey, Sweden vs Slovakia.
I must admit I think I need to buy more tissues though, because everytime they interview a Canadian athlete who then talks about all the support they’ve been receiving from the country, I start to tear up. Jenn Heil being classy with her silver medal win in the face of those obnoxious Americans? I cried. Alexandre Bilodeau talking about his brother? I bawled. At this rate I’ll need to find some waterproof mascara and eye shadow, otherwise it’ll all be running down my face every morning.
